Meet Alan Hickenbottom

(he/him)
Marriage and Family Therapist Intern

With a focus on older couples relationship and sexuality issues, dealing with late life divorce, and men's work, Alan's therapeutic approach draws from Internal Family Systems and Narrative Family Systems therapies, working collaboratively with his clients to explore new possibilities for connection and healing.

After decades of experience in renewable energy and non-profit work he is pursing his lifelong interest in human relationships by earning his Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University. His background in project management and stakeholder relations informs his straightforward, systems-oriented therapeutic style. He also has a strong belief in the benefits of nature and the arts – and how they can be shared -  expressed through his work with many environmental, art and youth-focused organizations.

When not in session, Alan enjoys road tripping in his mostly trusty VW van, hiking, skiing, cooking, writing, and printmaking. He's committed to helping individuals and couples create the relationships they want, drawing on both professional experience and genuine curiosity about human connection.
