Meet Deyla Tappan
Marriage and Family Therapist Associate | Specializing in Father-Child Relationships & Humanistic Therapies
Deyla’s journey to psychotherapy is deeply informed by her diverse life experiences—spanning careers in Acupuncture, Tai Chi, martial arts instruction, and alternative education development—as well as her own experience as a mother and business owner. With a compassionate and grounded approach, Deyla now brings her unique blend of skills and insights to her work as a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate with Kelle DeBruin Counseling.
Drawing from her rich background, Deyla is passionate about working with fathers who are navigating the complexities of their relationships with their children. She understands that fatherhood, while rewarding, can also bring unique challenges. Deyla uses a humanistic approach to therapy—one that emphasizes empathy, emotional growth, and self-acceptance—to help fathers build stronger, more meaningful connections with their children. She believes that the struggles fathers face can often hold the seeds of growth and transformation, both for them and their families.
Deyla enjoys working with fathers to deepen their emotional awareness, improve communication with their children, and overcome the barriers that may be hindering connection. Whether it’s dealing with parenting stress, emotional disconnect, or navigating a difficult phase in their child's life, Deyla provides a safe, non-judgmental space for fathers to explore their challenges and develop strategies for healthier family dynamics.
Her therapeutic toolkit includes Family Systems Therapies, Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Gottman Method, all woven into a deeply humanistic framework. She also incorporates somatic mindfulness-based practices to support her clients in connecting to their bodies, their emotions, and their children in more present and meaningful ways.
When she’s not working with clients, Deyla enjoys spending time with her family and training Tai Chi deep in the woods with her loyal Mastiff dog. Her calm, open, and compassionate presence makes her a safe and welcoming therapist for clients who are committed to creating lasting, positive change in their relationships with their children.
Deyla is honored to walk alongside her clients on their journey toward deeper connection, healing, and growth. She believes that seeking therapy is a courageous step toward becoming the person you want to be, and she is dedicated to helping you unlock your full potential.
Deyla is supervised by Kelle DeBruin.
