Meet Ry Vollrath

(they/them)
Marriage and Family Therapy Associate

Ry approaches therapy with curiosity, respect, and cultural humility, creating a space where clients feel safe bringing their full, authentic selves into each session. They believe people are inherently equipped to grow, heal, and thrive—a perspective that supports clients in building self-esteem, confidence, and resilience both in and outside of therapy.

Ry understands that lived experiences deeply shape how mental health symptoms develop, persist, and resolve. They explore the impact of family systems, social dynamics, and cultural context to build a collaborative therapeutic relationship that honors each client’s complexity.

Their primary approach is experiential therapy, helping clients process and move through difficult emotions as a pathway to self-discovery and healing. Ry also integrates Family Systems, Parts Work, Collaborative Language Systems, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to help clients understand their symptoms, normalize complex emotions, and develop meaningful therapeutic goals. They view therapy as a path to freedom—freedom from past patterns, freedom to fully experience and express emotions, and freedom to make intentional life choices.

Ry holds an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from National University, with a specialization in trauma-informed care. They completed clinical training at William Temple House in Portland, focusing on couples therapy, and later worked in an Intensive Outpatient Program, facilitating group therapy.

Ry works with individuals and couples from diverse cultural backgrounds and has extensive experience supporting LGBTQ+ clients. While they welcome all clients, they are especially passionate about working with those navigating family estrangement, ethical non-monogamy, and polyamory. In couples work, Ry helps partners create safety, communicate vulnerably, and shift long-standing relational patterns to build deeper trust and connection.

Outside of therapy, Ry enjoys tabletop role-playing games, science fiction, and video games. They also love experimenting with vegan recipes and spending time with their dog, Cashew. Originally from Ohio, Ry has lived in Portland since 2022 and enjoys exploring the natural beauty and culture of the Pacific Northwest.
