Meet Cory Rumsey

Professional Counselor Associate
Sometimes our histories can make living the lives we envision for ourselves challenging. If you’ve been struggling to show up for yourself or others, if you aren’t sure how to begin navigating an ending or transition, if everything feels outside of your control, you’ve found yourself in a great place.
My approach to counseling comes from a feminist, justice-oriented lens grounded in viewing the challenges you’re facing not only through your own history and experience, but also through the systems you interact with everyday. By slowing down and taking a step back, we can often gain new perspective and insight into what’s been holding you back from living your most authentic life. I use a trauma-informed, person-centered approach to get to know more about your lived experience, history, challenges and strengths, then help you find the tools hidden in your own toolbox that you might have never known were there, or perhaps have forgotten about. Whether you’re navigating trauma history, wanting to explore identity, experiencing a life transition, or working through grief, the relationship we create together is the foundation of the work we will be doing in the therapy space. Because I believe that people are innately whole despite the mental burden and struggles they carry, the therapeutic process is one in which I walk alongside you, rather than ahead of you, on your journey towards your most genuine self.
When working with couples and families, I utilize components of emotionally focused therapy to help my clients understand one another on a deeper level, gain perspective, communicate authentically, and respond to one another’s needs in an attuned way. I work with monogamous, non-monogamous, and polyamorous couples, as well as families with children, found families, adult families, and other nontraditional family relationships such as roommates. As a member of the queer community, I feel excited and honored to work with other queer folks.
